SIR – At last a councillor talking sense!
Cllr Richard Udall is saying we should finish the ring road before dualling Carrington Bridge.
Can you imagine the gridlock when Carrington Bridge is closed while all the work is being done?
First of all, if we finish the ring road before the dualling, then we will still have two bridges open all of the time. More importantly there is a very good chance that when the ring road is completed we may then find that the dualling is no longer needed and we could save ourselves about £70 million.
Now, MP Robin Walker, we are all aware that it was your father, Peter, who opened the Carrington Bridge in 1984, and we all appreciate that it is very close to your heart to correct the big mistake of the 1980s by not dualling it in the first place, but please listen to common sense.
Cllr Udall is the only one who can see what is blatantly obvious to everyone else who braves that miserable gridlock every day.
