SIR - Of all the counter-productive and downright money-down-the-drain follies to come out of County Hall, the Newtown Road corridor plan tops the lot.

The make 'em have it brigade are intent on inflicting their plan to link a Sixways park-and-ride site with the city centre and - here's the good bit - channel the space guzzling bus lane straight down Newtown Road.

Nobody wants it. The scheme is unworkable. The people set to lose most by it have not even been consulted.

Bureaucracy gone mad? You bet it is! On top of which, it's my guess we're already talking a done-deal like as not, and all with a burden on me, you and every other taxpayer of our poor overburdened city to the tune of three maybe four million and probably even more.

To rub our noses in it even more, they don't even know what the final tally will be!

All it takes is a little bit of common savvy and a working knowledge of Worcester to see that a far more intelligent option would be to do something about the arches to allow two-way traffic, underpinned with a red zone clearway barring stopping or parking along the Newtown Road, at the same time finding alternative parking for resident who have lived on the Newtown Road for many years.
