Hunting will never be called a sport

SIR - With regard to Mr Burgess's letter (April 14), I do hope that the whole hunting debate is not going to rear it's head again.

When will Mr Burgess accept that chasing, exhausting, and tearing a fox to pieces is not a sport?

We know that hunting people do not wish to get rid of the fox, because they used to breed them for cub hunting.

Country life and conservation can get on very well without this cruelty, as has been proven by the legislation - if the rules are adhered to. Has Mr Burgess not noticed that, because the farmers failed to hedge and ditch properly in their quest for more profits, the rest of us suffered unnecessary flooding on country roads. They are rectifying this now only because of pressure from the county council.
