Let’s have tasty veggie dishes, not crocodile

SIR – Every year sheep, cattle, chickens and pigs meet a cruel and early death to satisfy the demand for meat in the United Kingdom.

What a shame then that the Pear Tree in Smite (July 18) wants to add exotic animals to this list.

It is unpleasant to think of how creatures such as crocodiles and ostriches would be killed.

As most people are worried about climate change and animal farming already produces no less than 18 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, it would be better if chef Chris von Landkammer tickled customers tastebuds with tasty vegan dishes instead.

Most of us eat meat. We like meat. We have been meat eaters for millions of years.
We are not eaters of carrion, decaying flesh from already dead creatures.
So it is inevitable that we kill to get our meat.
So long as we do this as humanely as we can.
Which we in the more developed world almost always do.
Quite why you have to bring ostriches and crocodiles into the argument...
I suppose it gives you an opportunity to propagate your veggie or vegan views.
Consider this: do the plants you kill perhaps suffer?
