It’s clear why funding has not been secured

SIR – At last we now know why our MP has done nothing to help secure better funding for Worcester.

If Worcester fails financially, he will have gone a long way towards achieving his aim of engineering a unitary authority for the region sucking in Malvern, Wychavon, Wyre Forest, Droitwich, Redditch and Bromsgrove into one enormous bureaucratic machine.

Mike Foster has forgotten that his duty is not to represent government to the people of Worcester, but that he was elected to represent us and our interests to his government.

He omits to tell you that the estimated savings are not based on a sound researched business case, and that they might apply only if all authorities are sucked in. He fails to tell you how much it would cost to set this mammoth authority up in the first place and who would pay.

He fails to point out that your local representation will be severely diminished, that your local councillors will be reduced by some 75 per cent and decisions would be made by councillors from all seven authorities who have no local knowledge of say, Nunnery, Arboretum, Gorse Hill, St Johns or Rainbow Hill.

And what a pity, too, that Mike Foster cannot even treat an opponent with at least a modicum of respect as a person, rather than resort to derogatory and personal innuendo.

DAVID CLARK,

City Councillor and Cabinet Member.

What do we get from the City Council Mr Clark is so hotly defending?
A few local potentates might miss their status as councillors but just walk around Worcester and ask if it can get much worse than this anyway?

It is our Labour Governments policy to go for Unitary Authorities but they themselves won't come straight out, say so and make orders, they leave it to the "fifth columnists" in our midst like Michael Foster to start stoking the fires and setting the seeds before the Westminster lot jump on the bandwaggon and order it.
Be under no illusions what a Unitary Authority means for us in the City, it will have a profound adverse affect on almost everything to do with the Council that touches our lives - not least Council Tax.
Much to the displeasure of Michael Foster and the Labour Councillors in the City, we have one of the lowest Council Taxes going, notwithstanding they have been rising alarmingly, Council Tax will increase dramatically if one huge beaurocratic authority is brought into being.
If anyone doubts the resentment, anger etc of people who have had or are having a Unitary Authority forced on them, look no further than our next door neighbour, Shropshire, where North and South Shropshire District Councils, Shrewsbury and Atcham etc are going to be lumped with the huge conglomeration of that ill concieved "New Town", Telford and Wrekin. I forecast sparks.
Don't let us go the same way. We needn't if we get rid of Michael Foster, the only one (apart from his Councillor mates) who is pushing it.

Councillor Clark, what does your comment say about your fellow Conservative County Councillors? Does Mary Drinkwater, someone I know and respect, have no idea what is good for Worcester? Of course not, your comments are a gift to those campaigning against fellow Conservatives next year - why elect a Conservative County Councillor as David Clark says they know nothing!

At long last its started to sink in. IT being Regional Assembly's, our local Lobby fodder MP one M Foster. One of the most Euro files around. Did he not state we the people of this Nation do not require a referendum on the EU or the Lisbon Surrender,He voted for the Lisbon Surrender.Come on every one Wake up for goodness sake. In some comments people say that they never vote ,or do not know who to vote for in EU elections.Well having look at the Lib/Lab-Con Party . I'm left with two.To think about. 1 is the far right BNP.who say they want Freedom from the EU. Then there the middle of the road UKIP. Iv got to next June/July I think to make my mine up ,but no way will it be any Lobby fodder representing Lib/Lab-Con Party

Cromwell, if the UKIP stance is so popular in Worcester, why aren't they putting up a candidate at the next election? Mr Chamings, who stood last time, has said he isn't doing so again?

Whoever takes the trouble to door-knock, stands a good chance of winning!

However, one first needs a candidate and if the public are either a) not interested or b) brain-dead or c) apathetic after all this EU hammering, who's to blame anybody for not wanting to "get involved"?

The country now needs fresh, new blood - preferably still in a live human body and not on the floor!

Cromwell, the Europhobes who comment here are always saying that the European Parliament is powerless next to the European Commission. If you share that belief, surely it doesn't matter whom you vote for next June?

Good point Paul but the present MEP`s for this REGION play the EU game and seem either to keep their heads down in the trough or write bizare inconsequential letters like those from Mr Bushill-Matthews.

What we badly need are MEP`s who engage vigorously with the EU and press our case for the sort of cash presently being slipped to corrupt politicans and the Mafia in nations like Greece and Romania and Italy (and now Georgia) while our pathetic dive of a city rots around us.

In my approach to voting.I first look at who are standing, then what Party. Unlike a vast amount of voters. Who's belief is .(Mar dad voted for)Over many years not just recently Politics has produce many shell we be polite and say dishonest people. So lets have a look at the Lib/Lab-Con Party.Right at the beginning a dishonest MP T, Heath
said "Common Market" both he and other's MPs Rippon, Barber plus many more were dishonest.Tell me just one Prime minister who has followed Heath who's been honest, regarding the EU Can any voter believe in a Lib/Lab-Con Party manifesto. A referendum was promised, more dishonesty. Now lets look at MEPs, a Mr Bushill-Matthews, come come do you believe he fights this Countries Conner,If you do then you can please show me the fairies at the bottom of your garden .I will mention the Royal Mail /Post Office closers. Here the MEPs of the Lib/Lab-Con Party stood shoulder to shoulder and voted for its demise Liz Lynne Lib/Michael Cashman Lab-Malcolm Harbour Con Party. All voted for EU directives.A certain MP P Luff stated at no time was the EU involved dishonesty. Another Lobby Fodder MP M Foster is pursuing Regional Assemblies through the back as is stated In short I am left with the far right BNP who are building quite a following and believe me they are not all Tattoo Skin Heads or the UKIP. Please if you are going down the Kill Roy Silk path Lift the lid of the Lib/Lab_Con Party dig a little deep and phew. So between now and next June as Mr P Griffiths in forms me I have to make my mind up.
