It feels good to be a little Englander

SIR – While being quite proud to be a Little Englander/Eurosceptic/ anti-Europe fanatic, as labelled by Councillor David Candler and Terry James, Drakes Broughton, I would be devastated to be labelled a New Labour politically brainwashed Europhile.

However, MP Peter Luff is not brave. He is among other Tories, such as Ken Clarke and Michael Heseltine who hunger to get their noses into the money trough in Europe.

Ireland for example, has probably had millions paid by England, which also continues to donate millions in surplus to Brussels daily. Now Ireland’s unemployment numbers are beginning to rise and it has raging inflation that it just cannot control because of EU rules.

So, in recognising that New Labour has no allegiance to England with its crazy openborder policies and habit of selling off our assets to the Europeans, and though I am deeply concerned, it does actually feel quite good to be a little Englander.

BRIAN HUNT,

Worcester.

Sadly the Europhiles seem to think we are made of money and can continue to finance the rest of the EU .
They either are so stupid that they cannot recognise the drain on our resources or they simply dont want to know

I was in New York last week and I swear I was asked this question by an American - "Why does Great Britain bother with the European Union when you have nothing in common with them, why don't you stick with people who are like yourselves, such as the Americans, the Canadians and the Australians ?" I had to confess it was a mystery to me !

And me, and apart from Paul of the Lib Dems who has the occasional stab at the europhobes (small e) I don't know any "big Englanders", they must be so thin on the ground. Of course I don't include any Euro MPs in this, they don't really believe in it either if they tell the truth, the only thing that forms their pro EU opinions is the long and very deep trough.

Just imagine standing in a Glasgow street accusing Scottish nationalists of being Little Scotlanders.

What a surprise that Irish Welsh and Scottish people get their own assemblies and a better deal from Brussels and Westminster...and favourable treatment in the Media....while we English get ridiculed as small minded morris dancing idiots for wanting equality with the others.I wonder why?

Well I know why ....we are the most stupid gullible half soaked spineless bunch of wet lettuces on the face of the planet!

No - we aren't all like that, Forthright...but we have elected the wrong people to run the country for us.

Maybe we shall learn from this lesson?

They have ALL "taken the Brussels Shilling" and when they realise the grass is not greener, we shall then have to sort out the mess - or our children will.

The irony is, we have stood by and watched it happen!

Please add me to your list of Little Englanders!

The same point of view was expressed to me by a Dutch friend and much later by two Germans I was at that time working with. it was "What on earth are you English looking towards Europe for when out there you have Canada, America, Australia New-Zealand If Germany were in you shoes " Then I was asked the hand sign the English gave when not to happy When I made the finger sign the two Germans said"That what we Germans would give to the EU" makes you think

But what does it make you think Cromwell?

I think it just means that Germans are either as pathetic or powerless as us.

We are not free to join America or leave the EU and there`s no electable party able to provide us with that democratic option...while the all important medias influence is solidly pro EU.

But there is one chink of light. We now have the internet and I have great fun on the EU`s own debating form letting rip about our pitiful situation here in the UK.

And it`s interesting to see how real public opinion in the forum can be at variance with the tripe we are fed by the media and our joke politicians.

Somehow I can`t imagine Paul Griffiths getting an easy ride on them!
