SIR – With reference to Bob Churchill’s letter about stating beliefs (September 22) I wish to say that there is no personal animosity between us and that we are grateful to the Worcester News for allowing us to vent our ideas.
My first letter was conciliatory, correct, down to the point and in correct English. The reply of September 3 appears to me as a sequence of metaphors delivered in tribunician tones – a fact seized upon by somebody else. I believe firmly in freedom of opinion and I do welcome dialogue, yet the dislike of Christianity in the correspondence was palpable, I wonder what the bishop must have thought about it.
I suppose that the American election campaign and the presence of Sarah Palin must have contributed to the triggering of such discussions.
JOHN E IEBOLE, Worcester.
