Independent shops are good for city

SIR – Last month we enjoyed a family meal at the Glasshouse but our view was spoilt by some women outside protesting against foie gras – and there was none on the menu!

Last weekend these women were protesting against fur outside Second Hand Rose in the Hopmarket – despite the fact that, out of several hundred items, there were only two fur items, which were both more than 40 years old.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but these protests against independent retailers are misplaced.

Local businesses are an asset to the city and bring an alternative to the national chains.

I should declare an interest – our daughter is the proprietor of Second Hand Rose.

Droitwich.

Was it the same woman who protests by the cattle market with a sign that's far too small to read if you're in a car driving past?
