Ban gives us a law most of us support

SIR – Regarding Mr Burgess’s misguided comments and his usual inability to understand an argument, he continues to miss the point.

Now that the barbaric practice of killing foxes for pleasure has been divorced from riding to hounds, many more people feel able to support this wonderful tradition, as has been seen by the increase in the numbers attending meetings.

Contrary to previous arguments, the banning of fox hunting has not resulted in the devastation of the countryside, the slaughter of countless horses and hounds and full-scale loss of employment.

The hunting ban has given us a law that the majority of people support. Any attempt by a future Conservative government to change this law, while the world faces economic turmoil, would show exactly where Tory priorities lie. Finally, perhaps Mr Burgess can explain to us exactly what class has to do with hunting?

Worcester.

Those who claim that the Hunting Ban was the will of the people may find these quotes of interest.

“Now that hunting has been banned, we ought
at last to own up to it: the struggle over the Bill
was not just about animal welfare and personal
freedom, it was class war.”
Peter Bradley MP, PPS to Defra Minister Alun
Michael, Sunday Telegraph, 21st November 2004.

Tony, if you invoke the Parliament Act it will
be the most illiberal act of the last century.

shortly before Lord Jenkins’ death in January 2003.

Hunting ban ??? where is that then ??

Foxes not killed by hounds ??? when did that stop ???

the main reason that there is no devesation in the countryside and that countless horses or hounds havent been put down is quite simply due to the fact that hunting is alive and well and thriving more now than ever it has

Mr Blairs time in govt will go down in history as the man who lied to take his country to war and who used the parliment act to acheive nothing he like the so called ban is a waste of space
