SIR – I was confused by Jon Burgess’s letter (January 9).

He says there has been a huge increase in support for hunts since the Hunting Act of 2004, which surely proves that it was the chasing of wildlife with a pack of hounds and the kill that people abhorred. Or is he suggesting that hunts are acting illegally and still terrorising wildlife with a pack of dogs to tear it apart?
