About time council built more homes

SIR – In this recession the council should be building more council homes because there’s some people on low wages who will never be able to buy a home and we certainly don’t want to get in a mess where people were virtually forced to borrow money, way above what they could afford.

So the need for council houses is going to get bigger and they should be affordable. Councils should start building and forget about building huge bank balances in Icelandic banks or any bank. Invest the money in Britain for the people who can’t afford very high mortgages.

JOHN SHEARON,
Worcester.

When is this man going to get into the real world? He really should think more before he writes his letters. It was people like him who voted to 'give away' the Council houses to Housing Associations or did not bother to vote on the issue. I don't think he's got a computer or he would contribute to this site. I wish somebody would tell the man that Worcester City Council does not own houses anymore.

high time, Mr Shearons beyond help he lives in a fantasy world, where everything is great and the government are doing a splendid job, weird how he writes this letter as soon as old gormless announces his going to cut spending on education health etc, and start building social housing?!

Am I very stupid to ask why people with no capital should be able to "buy" houses? Should we also give them cars, TVs, luxury kitchens, and so on, as if they were impecunious MPs?

When I had no money, I rented a flat until I had saved enough for a deposit on a house. Then I laboured for many years paying interest and slowly, very slowly, reducing my capital debt. Don't people expect to do that any more?

Was I silly? Should I have asked Mr Shearon to buy my house for me?
