Police head-cams are a good thing

SIR – I think it’s a good thing the police are using head-cams to capture criminal activities on film. Pictures speak a thousand words – for example police using a taser-gun could make people think they must have had a warped mind, and for someone to use them on another person they must have a cruel streak. I certainly think these taser guns should been banned and that ban should include the police.

They don’t need a weapon like this. What if the person they used it on had a bad heart?

Would that result in a charge of murder if death occurred. I must emphasise it was in Nottingham that this incident occurred.

JOHN SHEARON,
Worcester.

Oh, dear, John - I have recently read in these columns that several people think you are "not from this planet" and after reading this, I am not sure myself!

A very simple first step for you, would be to go and speak to a policeman, or better still, a policewoman. They are very approachable and behind the uniform they are as human as us.

A short, pleasant conversation might just open your eyes to actually what is going on in our "green and pleasant land"!

There are some very unpleasant people out there - knives, drug-fuelled aggression, drunken fights, casual "walk-in" house burglaries, (especially this weather!) petty theft, shop-lifting, rape - there's no shortage of villains, but the honest likes of us do not (fortunately) usually come into contact with it.

Via a police constable, venture into their murky world, ask some questions and you may just revise your opinions.

A word of advice, if I may - don't go at 5 mins to 5, just before they knock off! How would you feel after another frantic day, to be asked to sit and chat a moment? That would be pushing your luck, sunshine!

PS: All police constables in training, have had the taser used on themselves by another person, so they know exactly the power they are using! Also, it is a final resort weapon.

Every word - bang on and correct CS.
This man is obviously living in a cocoon shielded from the real world. His letters (all of them) are preposterous.

The HeadCams are a great tool because it captures those moments as police turn up when people dont realise they have arrived - these are often key to the initial response and of course in court, the micreants like to disagree with what was said/done. The cameras will also help sort out the amount of time defence spend arguing what was and wasnt said (rightly they should as its their job but cameras will provide that evidence quite nicely)

The HeadCams are a fantastic tool for protecting the public, police and suspects. As they say, the camera doesn't lie.
