Hunters were very anti-social group

SIR – Driving between Upton and Tewkesbury last week, between the Welland Road junction and Longdon, I had to pass the riders and audience of a hunt. The grass verges were largely churned up by vehicles and hooves and one side of the road covered in mud. I found this inconsiderate and anti-social. Roads and grass verges are for everyone to use and admire and are maintained by the tax-payer. If a farmer had made this much mess he would have been told by Highways to clear it up.

As you say, the verges are there for everyone to use... not just people you agree with.

Wendy - why is it inconsiderate OR anti social? They had to park somewhere, so they parked off the road to keep congestion to a minimum.
.
They had to ride the horses, so they did so off the road, for the same reason as above, plus the fact that the horses would suffer less discomfort as a result.
.
And how do you know that whoever was in charge of organising the hunt wasn't asked to make good any mess that was made, such as mud on the roads etc? My grandad used to help to organise hunts, and he would get asked to 'tidy up' afterwards, which they gladly did.
.
It sounds as if you're using it as a vehicle to have a pop at the Hunting community who, let's be honest, get enough stick as it is.

Fine, Wendy, let's have a total ban on all sports involving cars and mud and lots of people enjoying themselves ... like football matches where the players try to break one another's legs in such a way that the ref doesn't see, setting a fine example to youf.

Darts should be OK ... except that it takes place in pubs where they drink and then go out in cars, probably to park on a muddy verge ... probably best to ban all cars, then stay in and watch the TV.
