Friday night parking fines put people off

8:10am Thursday 11th March 2010

SIR – As I was walking through Worcester early on Friday evening to meet my wife at the railway station, I noticed that several businesses had ceased trading, including restaurants, and there were very few people about. As I walked past a nearly empty car park in St Nicholas Street there were two wardens placing a fixed penalty ticket on a car in the car park. I could not help thinking that the lack of people and the number of businesses closing could be linked to the madness of a local council thinking it was a good idea to fine people for coming to spend money in Worcester on a Friday evening.
