SIR – I disagree with UKIP candidate Jack Bennett who wants to leave the EU (Letters, March 3).
As a supporter of British EU membership, I believe that a federal Europe is the best hope for the social and economic security of this country. The EU is an influence for good in the world and a federal Europe will stand with the world’s liberal forces against religious extremism and destructive capitalism and in support of the aims of the United Nations.
By no means perfect, the EU has raised the environmental, health, safety and human rights standards of the UK.
The economy of the EU is essentially social democratic with a consensus in support of universal welfare. It is no longer logical for the UK to continue its half-hearted relationship with the EU.
We need to plan for the full federal integration of the EU and membership of the Euro across the board.
