How are government bonds any use to us?

SIR – Correspondents to the letters page have asked ‘where is the money coming from to fund the proposed ring road bypass?’ Gordon Brown told us that when they were going to print money it would be spent on capital projects such as roads, hospitals and schools to get the country back to work. Well, that could be the answer.

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem this is to be.

It has been spent on government bonds. I would like to know what these are and how they have got people back to work. Perhaps Mr Foster could explain.
