John’s misled by bit of Tory spin

SIR – I have read John Phillpott’s article and wonder if he hasn’t been misled by a bit of late spin by the Conservatives in his praise for their West Worcestershire candidate, Harriett Baldwin.

She says now that she is opposed to the “Stalinist” imposition of housing numbers, but only last year she was saying that the numbers for Malvern Hills were about right.

This would translate to about 100 extra houses for every village in the district. Not much common sense or local determination there, John. More like a desperate Tory bid to get their candidate off a hook of their own councils’ making when they chose and voted for these ridiculous housing numbers.

Phillpott, whose page at time is amusing and diversional, is almost always poorly researched and and badly informed. A good example is his politically biased effort of last Saturday, where he attacked the Labour taxation of those dying intestate and without issue. Wrong Phillpott! Since the Middle Ages, the money has gone to either the Duchy of Cornwall or York. That is to say, Prince Charles or Prince Andrew. It is merely administered by the Treasury Solicitor (Labour or Conservative. Perhaps Phillpott is an old closet Royalist at heart?
