You can't cut your way out of a recession

SIR – In this election the Green Party will be fielding more candidates than ever before and is keener than ever to challenge the big three parties. There’s little to choose in policy terms between Labour, Conservatives and Lib Dems nowadays, and a huge proportion of the electorate feels disillusioned by all three. The Green Party is offering an alternative based on compassion and caring with a sound, modern economic policies.

You can’t cut your way out of a recession. We need government investment to create jobs and protect public services. We need to protect the NHS from the privatisation schemes favoured by Labour, the Tories and Lib Dems. There must be no short-sighted cuts in education or health or social services. There must be a new vision for a more stable, better balanced economy that doesn’t depend on unreliable investment bankers.

Louis Stephen
Green Party candidate for Worcester

That's all very well but the present government has already wasted all the money!
You can't cut your way out of a recession but equally you can't spend your way out the huge dept crisis that this country is facing.
Unless cuts are made quickly and deeply we are heading for a disaster of monumental proportions. We can't cut interest rates any more not that they are having any effect now anyway. This government has frittered away all our reserves to support an overblown housing market in a vain attempt to get re-elected. Who ever gets in next is going to have to pick up the bill! In a way I hope the labour party wins because it would be the end of the labour party for good if they had to face this mess of their own making.

Worcester has a Green candidate but no Lib Dem candidate?! No wonder these fringe parties feel that no-one takes them seriously.
