Five-day course is all you need now

Sir – Futher to C T Wareing’s letter of March 3 – poor quality training has not only affected gas appliance installation.

Until fairly recently only qualified and experienced electricians tended to undertake domestic electrical installation work.

However, as a result of a botched attempt by the Government to regulate the industry and clamp down on cowboys through the introduction of Part P of the building regulations, it is now possible to become a “competent domestic electrical installer” after completing a five-day training course.

5 days? I wonder what they deem as "competent"... Wiring a plug, perhaps? Or changing a lightbulb?
