SIR – A letter in the Daily Telegraph from a bus driver in Durham highlights the poor riding skills of cyclists.
In particular it refers to the misuse of bus lanes and the non-use of cycle lanes.
We can bring this debate closer to home.
There are a number of cycle lanes around our city, prepared by the county council at public expense, for the use of cyclists. Are they used regularly? I think not.
I travel the link road from Powick to the Ketch where there is a well-sign posted cycle path. It is underused.
As recently as the other night I had to overtake a cyclist on the road.
Why do we spend money on creating cycle lanes when their use is minimal? The motorist is rightly penalised for speeding. There is no redress for failure to use cycle lanes. Perhaps there should be.
