SIR – Just because John Burgess does not care how the dead animal he eats every Sunday is reared, that is no reason to say Pauline Burgess is trying to impose her vegan diet on him, or anyone else. She is pointing out the terrible way many, not all, animals are treated. Would Mr Burgess eat cat, dog or horse? If not, why not. He eats sheep, pigs and cows.

Don’t let anybody be hoodwinked by the RSPCA. It is a toothless organisation that lets so much ill treatment of animals go on it should be shut down.

If Mr Burgess or any meat-eater want to see how many farm animals are treated in this country then they should contact Hillside Animal Sanctuary and ask for one of the videos. Eat meat if you must, but make sure it is organic and free range.
