Pictures tell story

SIR – Whenever travelling circuses feature in the news we can be sure of an appearance from a local spokesman to explain that performing animals are actually extremely welltreated and enjoy their environment.

I think and hope that this mediaeval myth has finally been erased with the recent horrifying images of the treatment of elephant Anne – now thankfully rescued and safe from further abuse.

I never support a circus with live animal entertainment. Most of the time, these animals are only doing as they are told out of fear of receiving another beating.
