SIR – I was sad to see that the closure of Brown’s restaurant and the Crown and Sandys pub in Ombersley was headline news (Worcester News, January 25).
Although I have not visited either place recently, mainly due to cost cutting, my husband and I have always enjoyed our visits to both places.
The duck a la orange that you could get at the Crown and Sandys, cooked by the Evertons’ predecessors, was perfection where the meat falls off the bone. It lives long in the memory and was just delicious.
We first visited Brown’s in 1987, a celebration date etched in our minds.
I was a young impressionable young woman then and I felt and was made to feel like a million dollars.
I have never ever seen a selection of different cheeses to match theirs anywhere else in the world.
The waiters knew which country every one came from and what to expect if you chose one.
Alas, how times have changed, and I for one am very sorry to see the demise of these famous local institutions.
