SIR – Re the welfare benefits debate (Worcester News, January 25).
The Bishops are right to defend the children whose parents have been put in expensive homes.
We keep reading how much these families get, but how much of this money goes into the pockets of the greedy landlords? Instead of capping the families the Government should cap all rents – and I mean all rents – because councils and housing associations are grossly overcharging.
The only movement in the housing market is this buy-tolet where the landlords want the tenants to pay the mortgage with rent on top.
This is just outrageous and the Government should step in by reducing the rents.
As a result there wouldn’t be so many homeless.

So with the expected Gas & Electric increases even to those in fuel poverty, any increase will be met by going without something else. We are buying cheaper foods , and clothing (if ever) keeping our heating down, sometimes too low resulting in illnesses, And having to choose between Eating or Heating.
I could manage very comfortably on MP's wages and expenses. Some of our local Councillor's are getting much higher expenses (attendance allowances) than the old age pensions.
