Car parkers are not breaking the law

SIR – The front page ‘Parking chaos’ in the Worcester News (January 26) gives residents in Canterbury Road, Worcester, cause for thought.

Kim Weston is understandably organising a petition asking people to sign if they are unhappy with the car parking situation.

She intends to present the petition to Worcestershire County Council highways.

Unfortunately, householders have no legal right to park their vehicles outside their property or even in the road.

Staff and visitors at Worcestershire Royal Hospital are not breaking any law by escaping high parking fees at the hospital and using Canterbury Road.

One possible answer is for residents to reach a 100 per cent agreement to seek a residents-only parking restriction.

Failing that, as I’ve said before, there needs to be a multi-storey car park at the hospital with all parking charges reasonable for the entire site.
