Come on, Mr Cameron, we need you to lead

SIR – I see the RBS chief [Stephen Hester] has waived his £1 million bonus after Ed Miliband threatened to force a vote on it.

Well done, Ed Miliband. As for David Cameron and George Osborne, what a pair.

They were saying there was nothing they could do because the previous government had put things in place which meant they could not stop the bonus going through.

This blaming the Labour government when things don’t go right is wearing a bit thin and won’t wash anymore.

You want to be leader, so lead and ban all bonuses – not only from the banks, but civil servants and councillors.

So come on, Mr Cameron, let’s have action and stop blaming others.

I agree with Mr Shearon and i add that this mob in now are following the Thatcher line, the damage being done to us is not nesscesary, if we are so skint as a country as they make out then WHY are we giving billions in overseas aid? stop it all for a couple of years till we get the country straight, it was the banking that damaged us all so they should pay to put it right.
Does anyone remember PBR???

Always quoted by Thatcher for reward, OHH Payment by Results not failure.

I suspect that Mr Hester`s bonus was written into the contract given to him by the previous government, and had he chosen to ignore the various pressures to forgo it, Mr Milliband`s posturing would have been to no avail.
Legal contract trumps headline grabbing evey time!!!
I don`t think Milliband`s vote, even if he got a positive result would have been legally binding in any way.
For what it`s worth, I don`t believe people should get bonuses in any walk of life for anything other than outstanding performance - I doubt if Ed Milliband will ever be confronted with the offer of a bonus.
