SIR – Worcester MP Robin Walker’s concern over petrol prices in Worcester is welcome but his suggestion (Worcester News, January 25) that Asda should build a new petrol station is simplistic and opportunist.
The plans for the Lowesmoor redevelopment have been publicly available for several years and clearly show that there is no space for a petrol station.
Many local residents are already concerned about the extra traffic which the new Asda supermarket will generate.
A city centre filling station would only make matters worse, adding further to the congestion problems.
Mr Walker’s friends in Government have several powers available to them to reduce fuel costs for the motorist, householder and business but, so far, there is little evidence of any willingness to use them.
