SIR – In a city which cherishes good porcelain and mourns the death of Royal Worcester, there will be great sadness to hear the news coming out of Stoke-on- Trent.
Just a few years ago their famous Minton collection was sold off by the company, now it looks like the turn of Wedgewood.
The contents of their historical museum was actually shortlisted by Unesco as one of the top cultural treasures in the world and its operation had been separate from the parent company for nearly 50 years.
Apparently some small legal technicality allows Waterford Wedgewood to use these historical assets to pay off part of a big debt.
Could something disastrously similar not have happened in Worcester?
Fortunately, the wonderful historical collection at the Porcelain Museum was not only donated to the public by Charles Dyson Perrins but tightly secured into a legal trust.
Now there’s a benefactor for you.
