SIR – Sarah Taylor’s first in a series of Voices (Worcester News, March 23) featuring the concerns of young people was very interesting.

Worcester News editor Peter John was himself surprised at some of the issues raised.

It was emphasised that press reports about gangs of hooded youths only led to false impressions, as not everyone wearing a hood is out to cause trouble.

Usually, reports of rowdy youths receive more publicity and tend to stereotype them in a negative way, whereas much that is good does not hit the news headlines.

Luckily, today, with modern technology, youngsters are able to express their views more easily.

It is fantastic that Worcestershire County Council alongside the youth cabinet is looking for 10 people from each district to become volunteer advisers.

They will have a say on how £1 million, to be invested annually into commissioning of positive activities, should be spent.

Thank goodness that what was the norm in my day, ‘Children should be seen but not heard’ has long since fallen by the wayside.
