SIR – What a fiasco. I read the advice published in the Worcester News (May 23) about where to get the best view of the torch relay.
It included a list of locations and a timetable from the city boundary on the Droitwich Road to the city centre.
A large number of people in north Worcester between the river and canal and beyond – some of them with young families – congregated in Droitwich Road, standing six or seven deep on both sides of the road from the garden centre to the Coombes Road roundabout.
There were flags waving to give the relay a warm welcome in to our city. But what for?
All we saw was a cavalcade of police motorcyclists and police cars escorting two relay support coaches.
After standing there for more than two hours we were told that the torchbearer had passed through on one of the coaches.
As well as the adults, the children especially were very disappointed.
If the torch relay organisers felt the need to change the published programme they should have informed the public.
I consider their attitude towards our citizens absolutely disgusting.
