SIR – I’ve come under a barrage of criticism from all corners in recent weeks since my letter about the Lib Dems power share in Worcester ‘Lib Dems doing the same as independents’ (Worcester News, May 23).

Firstly, I must say I am no supporter of the Labour party, never have been. I am also anti-trade unions.

Secondly, I respected the independents for the hard work they put into Worcester and their stance to hold Labour to account.

My issue is that there are clear alternatives to running both this country and city.

We have seen over the Diamond Jubilee weekend an example of these.

My alternatives are about people – or the Big Society.

It is not about greed, power or money. Politics is about communities now, not just your elected members.

Strong governance is important, but likewise, so is the need to reflect the views of others.

I applaud Councillor Neil Laurenson for making others think twice, I also applaud our PM for getting people to realise the best way to come out of the financial gloom is through working together for the common good.

To all politcians – get real.
