Grass has not been cut for a long time

SIR – I READ in the Berrow’s
Worcester Journal over a week
ago about messy gardens.
In 2009 someone moved into
Shap Drive, the grass at the
front of the property has never
been cut, I complained to the
council but nothing done.
All the other gardens in this
area are neat and tidy. I own
my house and now it is worth
less.

In the good old days when council tenants were terrified of the housing inspectors, just one warning was enough to get things done. And you never saw old cars dumped on the fronts of open plan housing estates. (mind you there weren't many cars then either). But lawns were cut and those who were lucky / well off enough, to have a push along mower lent it out, or in the case of those who were unable to cut the grass, even did the job for them. But there was a real community spirit then. Something that successive governments have eroded.
When or if we oldies tell the younger generations about good neighbours you can see the disbelief in their eyes. So yes we had a lot less material things then, but in actual fact we had so much more than lot's of people are able to enjoy these days, real Friends & Neighbours.
OOh I am reaching for the tissues.

good neighbours no longer exist as we've turned into a selfish society, i must confess that in the pass my garden has been overgrown but that was partly because of medical problems. but also because i have been unable to afford removal and if i had several bags of garden rubbish in the garden neighbours would complain to the local council, no offers of help, not necessarily free, would be forthcoming. so folks which would be worse, overgrown or bags of garden cuttings.
