What about elderly and handicapped?

SIR – While realising that Network Rail is both a profitmaking organisation and public service, I am surprised that they prioritise the closure of some ticket offices and operate reduced hours elsewhere.

Ticket offices at Foregate Street and Shrub Hill stations in Worcester were closed at 5.30pm on Friday, July 13.

Would elderly and handicapped people who are unable to operate the ticket machine be fined on boarding a train?

Hardly encouraging for someone near 80 hitherto without a criminal record.

I agree, but we should recall that it's not that long ago when people in wheelchairs were required to travel in the mail or Goods vans. And will these cuts include the staff required on request to assist wheelchair users, by way of the portable ramps needed to board or alight trains?.
