Why all this hate mail against cyclists?

SIR – Isn’t it about time the Worcester News stopped printing hate mail about cyclists?

If all cyclists were Jews or Muslims you wouldn’t dare do it.

Surely you should lead with some common sense and not encourage the public to see us as targets.

Yesterday I got told off by a woman because I was doing about two miles an hour on the pavement – I will add that the length of my transgression was about 50 metres.

The lady in question was leading a German Shepherd dog.I could have quite easily said to her that the dog should be muzzled.

I didn’t, though, because all dogs don’t bite just as all cyclists aren’t looking to injure anyone.

I’m trusting that all the people who take the trouble to write to the editor about us lycra louts have never exceeded the speed limit in any situation, never put their foot down to beat an amber light and are in fact almost saintly.

And what about all the cyclists who completely ignore red traffic lights? What's their excuse for that?

it's simple, you get behind your wheel and you think you're superior.walk around warndon villages for example.every FOOTPATH is obstructed by parked vehicles to the point where you have to walk in the road and you fret over a cycle taking up the pavement!

Cyclists coming out of one way streets - the wrong way. Cyclists riding on pavements, often very fast. Cyclists going through red traffic lights. Cyclist not looking over their shoulder before overtaking parked vehicles - just pulling out as if they are the only people on the road. Cyclists not bothering to look or signal before turning. Cyclists scooting up the inside of slow moving traffic, often in the blind spot. Cyclists moving to front at traffic lights and then not moving off very quickly when the lights change so causing a hazard. Those are possibly just some of the reasons why cyclists are generally not liked.

In fact motorists do all of these things as well - I see it every day and almost every day there is a report of an accident involving cars on this web site.
