A photographer has narrowly missed out on a prestigious award.

David Hedges, of Eckington, was nominated for the Newscast Young Photographer Bursary in the UK Picture Editors Guild Awards – an annual event that recognises the talent of British photojournalists.

The 22-year-old, a former pupil at The King’s School Worcester, who did work experience with your Worcester News, studied photography at the University of Plymouth and now works for the South West News Service based in Bristol. He said: “I’ve been working for South West for about a year-and-a-half.

“What I like about photojournalism is that you meet new people every day and no day is ever the same.

“Going to work is always an exciting prospect.“I’m really happy to be nominated, especially as I’m fairly new to the job.”

Entrants had to submit five photos to a panel of judges. He was pipped to the post by winner Brad Wakefield. Visit Mr Hedges’ website at davidhedgesphotography.com.
