Worcester News: Crash OAP gives up driving Crash OAP gives up driving

A PENSIONER who crashed into another car in Worcester - pushing it on to the pavement and narrowly missing a pedestrian - admitted driving without due care and attention and failing to report an accident.

Matthew Drummond, aged 68, of Tetbury Drive, Worcester, pleaded guilty to hitting a Renault Clio on Rainbow Hill at 8.20am on March 7.

Samantha Webley, prosecuting, said: “The lady was driving to work at about 20mph. She got to the junction of Tunnel Hill and there was a bus parked up preventing people from passing.

“A silver Peugeot then drove into the side of her car pushing it onto the pavement narrowly missing a pedestrian. The car continued to drive on. She noticed it was stuck in traffic and followed it and got the registration before returning to check on the pedestrian. There was £1,171.97 worth of damage.

”In interview Drummond said he had been driving along Rainbow Hill and he said he was waved out and he was then hit. He then parked up and walked back but there was no one there.”

Defending, Mark Lister, said: “It is clear it was a busy road and was partially obstructed by a bus. It was a motability car that has been consequently been returned. He is no longer driving. He says he did make some effort to find out what went on.”

Drummond was sentenced at Worcester Magistrates Court to seven penalty points and ordered to pay £180 in fines, £60 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
