Worcester Warriors help plant new trees
3:10pm Wednesday 5th December 2012 in News
BEARING FRUIT: Warriors Paul Hodgson and Ed Shervington with Coun Richard Morris and local schoolchildren Jamie Saunders, Luke White and Charlotte Pye
A NEW community orchard in a Vale village had its first trees planted by some familiar faces.
Two Worcester Warriors rugby players visited Harvington last week and helped children from the village school plant the first tree.
Scrum half Paul Hodgson and hooker Ed Shervington took part in the ceremonial planting and marked the start of the project, which aims to tackle the surface run off water which causes substantial flooding on Leys Road in the village.
Phil Bawn from the Harvington Trust thanked all those who had been involved in getting the project off the ground which would be “something for the children as they were the future of the community.”
Also on hand to help with the planting was coun Richard Morris, chairman of Wychavon District Council.
He thanked all those involved and paid homage to the naming of the Jubilee Orchard after the Queen.”
He said: “This will be a great open space.”
