A PATRIOTIC Morgan sports car with a special Union flag design arrived at Malvern College to collect a card and gift for the Queen and deliver it to Buckingham Palace.
The gift was the work of a team of sixth form girls who set up a charitable project to raise funds and awareness for children’s charity Wings of Hope.
With the help of local designer Carly Tinkler and sponsorship from Aldine Print, of Barnards Green, Malvern they created a card featuring iconic images of the town.
With the support of Waitrose they collected more than 2,000 signatures, at the same time raising awareness and funds for the charity.
For a suitable gift in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year, the girls approached Old Malvernian Rhys Humm, of Holywell Malvern Spring Water, to produce a limited edition jeroboam of Malvern spring water.
And to complete the project in style the girls approached Morgan, a name synonymous with Malvern, who agreed to deliver the card and gift to the palace on behalf of the community.
Travelling in the Morgan was team member Rebecca Raby-Smith, who said: “It was the most amazing journey in a truly beautiful car.
“I do hope that Her Majesty enjoys our card and gift and that the £3,000 we raised for charity is put to good use, benefiting children less fortunate than ourselves."
Team members were amazed by the support they received, not only from their sponsors but from the community of Malvern as a whole.
“We would like to thank everyone," said Rebecca.
“We really are very lucky to live in such a positive community."
