A DOORSTEP conman is spinning tall stories to get money from unsuspecting elderly residents.

People in Droitwich are being warned to stay alert after police received four reports of a fraudster calling at homes on Friday.

He targeted homes in Worcester Road, Lyttelton Road and Corbett Road between 5-7pm using various stories to get money, generally about his car breaking down and needing money for a taxi.

On some occasions he was invited into the home and given money, but nothing else has been stolen.

He is described as white, more than 6ft tall and well built, aged in his late 30s or early 40s, but with a boyish face. He had short, dark, well-kept hair, was wearing a dark shirt and dark trousers and was well spoken, with a possible slight Black Country accent.

PC Barry Morton, from Droitwich Police Station, said: “The man is very convincing and persuasive and seems to be targeting the elderly in our community.

“While nothing has been stolen, we have concerns that he could also be checking out properties to see whether they are worth targeting for more serious crimes.”

He urged friends, neighbours and family of any elderly people in Droitwich to make them aware and not let anyone take advantage of their kindness.

Anyone who has been targeted or has any information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 552S 01/02/13 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
