PEOPLE are being urged to get involved in this year’s Cancer Research UK Relay For Life event in Worcester.

Teams of eight to 15 people of all ages, levels of fitness and from all walks of life are needed to take part in the overnight fund-raising festival Teams take it in turns to walk around the track during the event, which features music, games, entertainment, food and fund-raising.

This year it will be held at RGS The Grange in Fernhill Heath, near Worcester, during the weekend of September 7 and 8.

This is the fifth time Relay For Life has taken place in Worcester and the committee of volunteers is looking for local support to help make it a success.

As well as recruiting teams, they are searching for motivated people who want to help organise the event itself and get the whole community involved.

Lezley Moran, volunteer chairman of the Worcester Relay For Life, said: “We would love to hear from anyone who wants to find out more about the event and how they can help.

“It is a great way to spend time with your friends, family and colleagues while raising money for a seriously worthwhile cause. Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer.

“Taking part in Relay For Life is a positive way to be part of your local community and help make a real difference.”

Cancer Research UK is dedicated to saving more lives by preventing, controlling and curing all cancers.

The charity funds the work of thousands of scientists, doctors and nurses who are fighting more than 200 types of cancer.

Survival rates have doubled over the last 40 years and the charity’s work has been at the heart of that progress.

But despite improvements in treatment, cancer causes more than one in four of all deaths in the UK. Cancer Research UK says it wants to change that and needs the help of people in Worcester to help save more lives.
