HUNDREDS of people headed to the wetlands in and around Simonsbath and Blackpitts for Bogtastic 2013.

Families enjoyed picnics, river dipping and other activities while learning about boglands after the Heart of Exmoor, Exmoor National Park Authority, the Simonsbath Festival, Simonsbath House Hotel and the Exmoor Mires Project came together to make it happen.

The sun shone and there were all-weather options such as undercover exhibitions, sawmill tours and face painting at the event, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Environment Agency.

David Rolls, education and outreach officer atthe Heart of Exmoor, said: “It was a brilliant day and greatto see so many people learning about Exmoor’s amazing bogs.

“It was great to see so many local people there and we hope to do it again in the future. If any other organisations would like to be involved, please get in touch.”

Other free upcoming events in the national park include a Wild Night Outin Simonsbath on Wednesday, June 12, and Go Wild on Grabbist on Saturday, June 15.
