A DESPERATE plea has been made to hotels and bed and breakfasts for spare beds and mattresses to be donated to vulnerable people.

Second Chance Furnishings need about 160 beds to fulfil it's contract with Worcester City Council but has been let down by two hotels from outside the county.

A previous plea in your Worcester News led to ten beds being donated by kindhearted readers but Paul Clarke, operations co-ordinator, said they need much more to be able to meet the referrals.

Set up by St Paul's Hostel, Second Chance Furnishings provides white goods and furniture for the city council's Discretionary Welfare Assistance Scheme as well as sells affordable and donated items from its warehouse.

"It was great to get the ten donations before but what we do need is with a hotel or a bed and breakfast which is being renovated and is getting rid of a number of beds.

"We had been promised beds from two hotels but unfortunately they both let us down.

"If we don't get the beds it means that a vulnerable person has to sleep on the floor.

"We're really grateful to everyone who has donated beds to us and we are also approaching businesses which sell beds to mention us to their customers."
