HUNDREDS of new jobs will be created after plans for a new business park at Hindlip were given the go ahead.

Up to 300 jobs could be created as a result of the development, which was welcomed by local councillors.

Councillor Tony Miller spoke in support of the plans despite not being a non-committee member and unable to vote.

He said: "This application coming along has been needed for quite some time now.

"The parish council and local residents look forward to seeing this site put into some order.

"The amount of employment this is going to bring forward is very welcome in the area.

"I would support the application."

It has been put forward by developers Marsten Developments (Worcester) Ltd and will sit on the site next to the Police headquarters.

The development will see some of the existing buildings on the former Pershore Agricultural College site, which has been vacant for more than ten years, demolished and replaced with the new business park.

The hybrid application will consist of 6,699 square metres of floorspace dedicated to business use and 474 square metres of floorspace for business, leisure and non residential use.

The site has been split into two parts with the first section consisting of 1,249 square metres of business use in three existing buildings, which will be altered and incorporate the iconic clock tower.

The second stage is currently only an outline application.

The former farm house at Court Farm and listed Victorian model farm dairy is not included in the application site.

As part of the application there would be parking for up to 282 spaces including some underground facilities.

Cllr Margaret Rowley, a local member and member of the planning committee also gave the plans her backing and proposed the plans.

"I have been looking forward to this site coming forward for quite a while," she said. "It is high time it was brought forward. I am happy a solution has been put forward."

The application will now be considered by the Secretary of State for Planning MP Nick Boles.
