PERSHORE'S Poppy Appeal will get underway from Saturday (Oct 25) with an official launch in the town centre.

Events will mark the beginning of the Poppy Appeal 2014 with Pershore & District Branch Royal British Legion providing the entertainment.

On Saturday morning Chapman Court, outside Asda in Pershore, will be taken over by the Travelling Museum and its WW1 and WW2 artefacts.

This follows on from a hugely successful event last year and will take place between 10am and 4pm.

In the evening, the women's section are hosting a new event at Pershore Town Football Club from 7pm until 10pm called, Keep the Home Fires Burning.

Tickets are £5 to include a light supper and entertainment in the spirit of WW2 from the Bluetones Jazz Band.

Guests are asked to dress to impress to enter into the spirit of the occasion.

Poppies will then be on sale from Asda in the town centre and the Co-operative, Racecourse Road, for two weeks and an extra chance to buy Poppy Merchandise will take place at Asda on Saturday, November 8 and Pershore Naval Social Club from October 25.

The third main event will be Pershore & District Royal Naval Association's Poppy Party on Saturday, November 1, which is free but there will be a grand raffle to raise money for the appeal.

This event will also mark the birthdays of the youngest member, Trudy Burge who will be 45, and the oldest member, Jack Madders who will be 92, both born on November 1.
