A GAS main was hit while roadworks were being carried out to enlarge Ketch roundabout.

A National Grid engineer was called to the island after a gas mains was hit at just after 4pm yesterday.

He carried out a temporary repair and called out a couple of engineering gangs who were at the roundabout until 8.30pm.

No supplies were lost.

Engineers will be going back in the next couple of days to carry out a permanent repair but it is not expected to lead to road closures.

Work is currently going on at the roundabout as part of an £8 million revamp of the A4440 due to be completed by April 2015.
