A WORCESTER pub has gone back to its roots for inspiration for a new work of art.

The Chestnut in Lansdowne Road, Worcester, has been without a chestnut tree on its grounds for a number of years.

Landlord Colin Robinson took over the pub two years ago and he said the trees had all been cut down some time before then.

"I believe the trees had to be cut down because they all became diseased, so it's quite sad really," he said.

"As the pub is called the Chestnut, and we are currently doing the garden up, I thought it would be nice to get someone to do a painting of a chestnut tree on the wall of the pub."

Mr Robinson contacted local artist, Orly Phillips, to see if she could use her artistic talents to create the mural.

Ms Phillips, a former Worcester Sixth Form College student, said: "I often go to the Chestnut as it's a lovely pub. When Colin asked me to paint the mural I was more than happy to. It took a few days because of the weather as it was quite windy at times and I had to climb a ladder to paint the top of the tree. I've done murals before but nothing quite this big.

"I'm really pleased with how it has turned out."

Mr Robinson said the painting is "wonderful"

"Orly has done a fantastic job. The painting really adds to the pub," he said.
