THERE will be more than just the usual Sunday shoppers roaming Worcester city centre this weekend.

Horror fans will be in their element as the Worcester Zombie Walk returns from midday on Sunday.

The Zombie Walk was first set up in 2008 and last took place in 2012.

But a team of horror fans have been working with original organisers, Andy and Tracey Monaghan, to re-animate the event in time for Halloween.

'Zombies' can gather outside the Crown on Broad Street from 11.30am in time for the midday walk which will take the herd through the city centre.

Amy Griffin, one of the event organisers, said: "A few of us thought it would be a great idea to bring the walk back to Worcester because it was great fun and really well attended. Last year there wasn't one because Andy had just opened his shop in Worcester and it is a lot to organise, so a few of us offered to help and it's gone from there.

"I think it will be good for Worcester. There are zombie walks nationwide but the walk was popular in Worcester and since we set up our Facebook group about it we had around 300 likes in the first few days. They are always good fun and this year we'll be fundraising for CLIC Sargent, which supports children and young people with cancer.

"We are very much looking forward to it, although I am nervous with it being my first time helping to organise the event. But it should be great fun and if people don't want to dress up they can just come along and join in with a quiz after the walk or the Zombola, which has some great prizes to be won."

A bell will toll at the start of the walk to signal the herd's arrival, so anyone not wanting to come across the zombies can evacuate the city centre.

Anyone who can help apply zombie make up on the day is asked to go to the Crown for 10.30am on Sunday.
