RAP legend Snoop Dogg is to appear at a Worcester nightclub just weeks after the same venue was embroiled in controversy after an appearance by Hollywood superstar Will Smith turned out to be an hoax.

Tramps has announced the rapper is to perform a live DJ set at the venue on Friday, December 12 following a concert in Leeds earlier the same night.

Earlier this month independent promoter Clique claimed Men in Black star Will Smith was to make an appearance at an event it was holding at the nightclub. But a social media storm erupted after the event on Friday, November 7 when people who were there said they did not think the man who appeared at the club was really the 46-year-old.

Although promoters Clique maintained the A-lister had appeared at the club, it was later revealed to have been an imposter and Tramps has since severed ties with the company.

But this time the appearance appears to be legitimate, with the 43-year-old himself - who will be appearing under his new pseudonym DJ Snoopadelic - tweeting a poster for the event from his official Twitter account.

Tramps owner Dean Hill said he had dealt directly with the rapper's agents to set up the event and no promoter was involved this time.

"We have nothing to do with the Will Smith fiasco," he said. "When we do these things we do them properly.

"It was quite frustrating when that whole thing happened because we knew this was in the pipeline but we couldn't announce it."

Mr Hill said tickets to the event, which went on sale on Wednesday, November 19, were already flying off the shelves.

"He's only in the UK for a few days," he said. "He's playing a gig in Leeds, then coming straight down here and going directly to the airport afterwards."

"We're really excited.

"It's the biggest thing Worcester has seen for a while."

A spokesman from agency IFA - which manages Snoop Dogg in the UK - confirmed the event was not a hoax, saying: "Yes, it's definitely him".

Reaction on Twitter was bemused with @DaleB_ Tweeting: "pardon? SNoop? Worcester?" while @thomasmark93 said: "jokes right".

Meanwhile @HeidiSalisbury said: "reckon they've done this cus of the whole will smith palava".

The musician and occasional actor - real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr - has gone under a number of pseudonyms in his 21-year career including Snoop Doggy Dog, Snoop Lion and now DJ Snoopadelic.
