THE first showhome has opened at the new housing development at the former home of Worcester City FC.

Building work has been underway on an 80-home development at the former site of the club’s ground in St George’s Lane since last year, and the first showhome opened on Saturday, March 28.

The development by Wembley-based Carey’s New Homes is named The Lane, after fan’s nickname for the ground, and includes three and four bedroom homes as well as one and two bedroom apartments.

The company’s managing director Greg Ketteridge said there had already been significant demand for the homes, with half already sold.

“The Lane development offers buyers high quality homes in a great location at affordable prices,” he said. “The opening of the showhome will be the first opportunity for people to see first-hand the development’s build quality and outstanding specification.”

The showhome is open every day except Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am until 5pm.

St George’s Lane was the club’s home for 108 years but was demolished in 2014. The club is currently in its second season of groundsharing with Kidderminster Harriers at Aggborough and is expected to announce a third imminently.

In April last year a planning application for a new 4,130-seat stadium in Perdiswell were submitted and, following almost a year of delays, was finally opened to public consultation earlier this month. Some parts of the former ground such as turnstiles and the entrance gate have been placed in storage in the hope that can be incorporated into the new stadium
