A GOTHIC artist and author who has battled dyslexia has had his work praised by the daughter of a horror film legend.
Glenn James from Worcester has earned recognition from the daughter of actor Boris Karloff after getting his horror stories published for the first time.
Mr James of Malvern Road, St John’s, Worcester, was praised by Sara Karloff, the daughter of one of the first people to play Frankenstein’s monster on screen.
The two stories have now been published online in the USA and are available on Mr James’ own website.
The horror stories are called A Shock to the System and According to Bill.
The 38-year-old said: “When the Frankenstein story went online, I notified the Karloff website about it, and I received a wonderful reply from Sara Karloff herself, Boris’s daughter.
“I was astonished, as I never expected anything of the kind, and she said that she had enjoyed every word of it.”
The Frankenstein story was written by Mr James on a bus as he passed Dudley Castle, which was also an inspiration to film-maker James Whale who made the 1931 Frankenstein and discovered Boris Karloff.
The other story is a tale about a vampire publication online and represents the very first Skaler short story published anywhere. Mr James has written several stories about a vampire named Skaler who is on the run from another vampire called Prince Germane.
Mr James said: “It’s an edgy, atmospheric tale of creeping unease, and a dark introduction to Skaler himself.” Mr James’ work has recently gained more notice thanks to website Newsblaze.
He said: “They have encouraged me in my work, and given me scope to stretch, an approach they engender with all new writers. They are doing something truly invaluable in giving media students and writers a chance to progress their careers.
“I also happen to be a dyslexic author, and this has been a wonderful vindicating experience.”
Both stories are online at gjamesgothicworks.com via the news page.
